Parin was at the height of his career when he painted this striking portrait of Magda Springer. It illustrates his close understanding of the late 19th portrait traditions pioneered by John Singer Sargent and why his contemporaries considered him a living proponent of that century’s aesthetic in Trieste. The portrait was displayed in the 10th Exhibition of the Regional Fascist Syndicate of Fine Arts for the region of Venezia Giulia, which was held in Trieste in 1936.
